About Nury

¡Hola! I'm Nury Márquez, a licensed clinical social worker dedicated to providing equitable mental health services. I've been helping individuals access the support they need since 2015, and officially became a licensed therapist in 2017.

As an immigrant child of immigrant parents, I intimately understand the complexities of migration and its impact on mental health—an often overlooked aspect in our conversations. Having migrated to the United States from Mexico as a pre-teen, I grew up attached yet disconnected from the two cultures. This personal journey revealed a lack of mental health resources tailored to individuals with similar experiences, sparking my passion to bridge this gap.

Driven by a desire to comprehend the intersection of mental health and cultural identity, I embarked on a journey of self-discovery, delving into my indigenous heritage and listening to the wisdom of my ancestors. This profound connection led to the inception of my practice, Papalotl, inspired by the Nahuatl word for butterfly.

In Latinx culture, butterflies symbolize growth, happiness, transformation, and the presence of departed loved ones—an embodiment of resilience and renewal. This symbolism deeply influences my therapeutic approach, serving as a guiding light that reminds us it's never too late to embark on a journey of personal transformation.
